Bench Saw - Another Great Type Of Saw

A bench saw is a great tool for those involved in carpentry. Do it yourself home owners will find tools like the exakt saw and the bench saw very handy as it will enable them to accurately cut lengths of wood, along their length. This is the primary reason why this saw was created actually, because cutting lumber along its length accurately and cleanly was not achieved without a challenge before this tool came along. This tool has made this type of cutting a lot easier. The bench saw is also known as a table saw.

There are several parts to the bench saw. The most critical parts of this tool though are the mount, the motor system, and the fencing system. The reason these characteristics are critical is because they will determine what type of bench saw you decide to get. If you are looking at using a saw that will be permanently stationed in your workshop at home then there is that type of bench or table saw available. If you however plan to be able to use this saw both at home or at work then this type too is available. Some people want that portable kind of saw while others would rather have a saw that is affixed to a table or bench at home permanently. The fencing system is also critical. A fence and rail that extends past the bench or table itself is an excellent guide for making wide cuts with precision.

Pay attention to how the motor and blade are mounted. With smaller bench saws the motor may be mounted on one bracket on the side. This allows for raising and lowering of the blade for cutting. You find that with bigger bench saws however the system used for mounting involves symmetrically placed tracks and guide rods that tend to allow for more accurate sawing and movements of the saw on the fly. The other advantage to the second mounted system is a reduction in vibrations.  These are things to consider when you are choosing your bench saw.

Safety is of utmost importance. A blade guard provides you with protection against injury while using the bench saw. A dust extractor is also useful for keeping your work area clean. Tenoning jigs and sliding tables also provide more usability to your saw but these items are optional. As with most tools there are options that are extremely modern and include things like a touch screen. While these modernistic attributes may provide some advantages, an older but stable and well maintained version of this tool may be all that is needed. Maintenance of any tool will prolong its life so it is encouraged that you do regular cleaning and regular scheduled maintenance on your bench saw.
