Cross Cut Saw - Age Old Tool But Still Very Relevant

The crosscut saw, unlike the exakt saw, has been a useful tool for time in memoriam.  This tool, as the name suggests, is used for cutting across the cross section of wood. This type of saw is used in both normal carpentry works, as well as for larger scale work in the form of forestry and logging work.  While there are many different types of saws used by persons in their daily work with building, home improvement, forestry etc. this saw is easily the most popular of them all.

The crosscut saw is usually about two feet long and has teeth that have a beveled edge. The edge that cuts the wood is usually angled back so that the teeth can cut right through the lumber. Some of the teeth of crosscut saws have different patterns and this is to allow for removal of the strips of wood during cutting. The use of cutters, rakers and a gullet all come together to make the crosscut saw one of the most efficient saws out there. This type of saw is primarily used for cutting perpendicular to the grain of the wood.

When doing even finer work the cross cut saw is also very useful. It is especially ideal if you are doing work on furniture where you may need to do a small but quick alteration. Small alterations such as cutting off a small piece of excess wood will require the use of this tool. In saying this, this particular tool is pretty much the basic saw that anyone working with wood, whether it be a joiner, carpenter etcetera, will use. This saw is regarded as versatile and is capable of doing many different tasks because of its mobility and relative size and weight.

Cross cut saws are very easy to locate for purchasing. They can also be readily found on the vintage market.
